This opera is extremely light-hearted and joyful. It portrays a very flirty mood, primarily because of its accented and staccato style of melodies performed by the orchestral violins. It also reminds me of the 1968 version of the movie Romeo and Juliet. Although both of these pieces of plays are totally different genres of artwork and are some three hundred years apart, they do, however, portray some of the most sincere forms of passion and purest of love from two lovebirds. There are two melodic climaxes in this Aria, but what is even more incredible is its seemingly natural musical note transpositions. It instantly goes up to the melodic climax and when it’s time to come back down, it comes down in a spiraling down fashion between his falsetto and modal vocals, further adding to the flirty and joyful mood. It is just so marvelous and spectacular.

Response 1: I agree, this is perhaps one of the most famous Aria probably. I do believe that I’ve heard of it somewhere a couple of years ago. But only just now learning what those lyrics really meant. One of the lyrics says “Nothing in the world matters except pleasure. Let’s enjoy ourselves. Love’s bliss is short-lived.” at 1:35. Another imagery actually popped up in my head. I remember a while ago, there was a massive scandal of a data breach at one of the infamous love affair sites, I forgot the name of the site but their slogan was “Life is short, have an affair.” It actually reminds me of that slogan. 😂

Response 2: Yeah, what is striking to me is also that near-effortless of note transpositions. It goes up to the melodic climax with ease, and when it’s time to descend, it does it in a spiraling fashion between his falsetto and modal vocal. As a frequent karaoke singer, I can attest that this is something that is really hard to do unless you are a professional vocalist or have had some sort of specific training. I also noticed that there was also a lot of tongue twisters. Which has a close resemblance to that of the Spanish language. I remember Diana linked an old Spanish song in her musical layer discussion forum back in week two, and that Spanish song also had a lot of tongue twisters. It genuinely added more of that “romanticness” to the music.
I believe this is the song that she linked, and I don’t think you were there for that week. Feel free to take a listen. 😁
