One of the most critical qualities for any working professional is the person’s attention to detail and wariness of potential issues. Luckily, I had the chance to develop these two qualities over my past eight years of work experience, especially within the real estate industry. People who exhibit these qualities are good at finding and preventing issues that may not have been apparent from the start but would’ve been disastrous otherwise. One of the most memorable moments in my career that proves this was on a beautiful Monday morning when I was preparing a deposit check for the escrow of a new transaction. And as I was preparing the deposit check, the name of the escrow office suddenly caught my eye, and I remembered some complaints from our in-house agents regarding this particular escrow and how they might have had a reputation of being deceptive. Therefore, being the person of detail that I am, I went on Google and searched this specific escrow office to confirm my suspicion. And little to my surprise, there was a massive amount of negative reviews complaining about misleading and deceptive behaviors. And therefore, I meticulously took a video of the check preparation process on my phone before sending the package off to our courier for delivery. And again, little to my surprise, the escrow officer had mistakenly cashed another transaction’s check for our client’s deal. So I confronted the escrow officer and told her that the client’s name on the check receipt was incorrect. However, the escrow officer grew increasingly defensive and started to deny her mistake; then, she began to accuse us of sending her the wrong client’s check. So I pulled out the video that I took while processing the deposit check, which includes the subsequent sealing of the envelope and taping of the courier’s label. And sure enough, she was wrong. That’s how I saved my company and myself from a false allegation. We eventually informed our client of this situation, and they have subsequently canceled and walked away from this deal.
