A time that I laughed uncontrollably hard was when I saw a YouTube video posted by College Humor titled,” Why Can’t You Use Phones on Planes?” back in late 2013. The video portraited a young flight attendant broadcasting pre-flight announcements and how she became increasingly annoyed at customer’s ridiculous questions. At the beginning of the video, the flight attendant asked the passengers very nicely to turn off their electronic devices as it may interfere with the airplane’s electromagnetic signals. However, a male passenger confronted her and asked her to explain the actual physics behind the interference. Up till this point, she is still very level-headed and calmly explained the relationships between the aircraft’s complex electromagnetic signals and the on-ground radio towers. That is when, of course, more passengers started to bombard her with more questions on this very same topic but with other electronic devices that these individual passengers hold. She then raised her voice and reiterated that all electronic devices must be turned off as the plane takes off, no ifs, ands, or buts.

However, the crowd of passengers started to murmur different devices all at once, and the situation on the plane looks increasingly uncontrollable. That’s when she completely lost her temper and said what every flight attendant wants to say in this situation but cannot say due to various airline courtesy and professionalism guidelines. She said: “Airplanes are magic. Okay? No one knows why you have to turn off your cellphone, and you want to know why? Because no one knows how an airplane works!”. She continued with this endless but yet hilarious rant until the passengers finally calmed and followed her orders. There are many things in this video that I just simply cannot transcribe into words without diminishing its funniness.
